Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2022

Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2022

Toyota showrooms have begun taking orders for the Toyota Hilux GR SPORT. This is a completely new version of the iconic pick-up, based on the experience of starting in the Dakar Rally.

The vehicle features an active limited slip differential, a locking rear differential and an active traction control system. In addition, the vehicle is fitted with AT tyres that make off-roading easier, as well as an improved suspension. Vibration and noise reduction has contributed to improved on-road comfort.

The GR SPORT version is fitted with the 2.8-litre Hilux engine, available from 2020. The engine produces 204 hp (150 kW) and 500 Nm of maximum torque. The engine is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is available only in a twin-cab version. The Hilux can pull a trailer with a brake of 3.5 tonnes and has a payload of one tonne.

The Toyota Hilux GR SPORT has a modified suspension. Only this version uses single-tube dampers front and rear for better damping, quicker response and better heat dissipation. In addition, the front springs have been strengthened. Compared to the standard Hilux, the GR SPORT version has improved driving performance, including improved steering effort and response.

Suspension modifications can be seen from the outside. The springs and shock absorbers are painted red. The red-painted aluminium engine and rear axle casings also add to the rally character.

The GR SPORT version does not only impress with its red chassis elements. The car features a dark G-shaped grille inspired by the Dakar rally, as well as a TOYOTA lettering in place of the brand emblem. This is a reference to the heritage of this model and the classic fourth-generation Hilux from the early 1980s. The sleek styling of the front end is accentuated by the new, enlarged fog lamp bezels. The Hilux GR SPORT also features two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels with off-road tyres and a black motif on the mirrors, side skirts, wings, above the cargo area and on the tailgate handle.

Toyota Hilux GR SPORT interior:

In the interior, the GR SPORT version features new perforated leather sports seats with red stitching and the GR badge on the headrests. The GR SPORT logos are featured on the seats, carpets, start button and graphic animation on the display. The driver can use the paddle paddles, the leather steering wheel has red stitching and the sports pedals are made from aluminium. Carbon fibre inserts add character, as do a red decorative stripe on the cockpit or blue door panel illumination. The luggage compartment can be closed with a black electrically operated roller blind.

Toyota has unveiled the Hilux Revo GR Sport in Thailand, where it is available in high and low versions with sporty elements, featuring the Gazoo Racing emblem. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Hilux GR Sport, as the model appeared in 2018 as a limited edition for Brazil, but this time the variant is different, based on the updated Hilux, which features a more powerful turbodiesel.
