The Byton M-Byte is an electric crossover that is the first production model from Chinese electric car manufacturer Byton.

 

The Byton M-Byte is more compact than the Tesla Model X and is similar in size to the BMW X5: length 4,875 mm, width 2,195 mm (with mirrors), height 1,665 mm. The wheelbase is 2,950 mm. Compared to the concept, there are additional headlight sections and hidden door handles, conventional rearview mirrors are installed instead of cameras, but otherwise the crossover has retained its original proportions and design.

One of the unique technologies implemented in M-Byte is facial recognition, which can be used instead of a conventional key to lock and unlock the electric car.
Drivers also have access to the Byton Life app, which enables the car to interact with mobile devices. In doing so, the car has a digital learning capability whereby, while analysing schedules, locations, preferences, and data from the app, the car generates specific memos for each user. In addition, M-Byte can recognize the voices of different users.

Byton M-Byte engine:

There are several powertrain options to choose from. In the first case, an electric motor with 347 hp (520 Nm) is mounted on the rear axle. The second uses two motors with a combined output of 694 bhp (1,040 Nm). The latest version – Ultra Long Battery Life Pure Electric Version – develops 490 bhp.
In China, a hybrid version is available – with a 1.5-litre petrol unit producing 109 bhp, which acts as a ‘range extender’.

 

Byton M-Byte battery and range:

The base rear-wheel-drive version is equipped with a 72 kWh battery, which provides the crossover with 360 km according to WLTP.
The top-end all-wheel-drive crossover is equipped with a 95 kWh battery that can travel 435 km on a single charge, according to WLTP.

Fast DC charging of the electric car will be available with up to 150kW and will charge the battery pack to 80% of capacity in 35 minutes.

Byton M-Byte interior:

Inside the electric car, the main element is a curved 48-inch screen that replaces the faceplate. It allows gesture and voice control, and the company claims it is the world’s largest in-car display for a production model.
The huge screen does not allow direct touch controls, for which there is a separate touchpad on a seven-inch screen in the steering wheel.
