In spring 2018, the Aiways car company unveiled a concept for a future production electric car – the Aiways U5 Ion – at the Beijing Motor Show.
Based on it, a 5-door all-electric crossover has been made in the Chinese city of Nanchang. The crossover is built on a versatile aluminium MAS (More Adaptable Structure) modular platform with an underfloor sandwich battery and the option of placing an extra battery in the boot cellar.
It has MacPherson suspension at the front and multilevel at the rear.
The Premium version includes 19-inch wheels, leather seats, heated front seats, panoramic windows and their adjustment as well as contactless charging for mobile phones.
The vehicle also boasts a spacious luggage compartment of 432 litres. If the rear row is removed, it reaches 1,555 litres.

Aiways U5 battery (Aiways U5 charge):
There are three lithium-ion batteries with capacities of 53, 63 and 72 kWh to choose from. It offers a range of 410 km on the WLTP cycle. The charging port is located at the front under the left-hand headlight. The manufacturer promises fast charging of the battery from high-speed charging stations in 35 minutes. There’s also the usual way of charging from the mains. The battery powers the electric motor on the front axle with 150 kW (204 hp).

Aiways U5 interior:
The Chinese crossover gets a two-tone interior with dramatic white upholstery and dark inserts.
There are two displays in the cabin. The first one is located behind the steering wheel and serves as an instrument panel. It provides the driver with basic information while driving: speed, battery charge, range, etc. The second screen is located on the centre panel and its diameter is 12.3 inches (31.24 cm). It serves as a multimedia system and is also used to adjust the climate control, set up the navigation and other functions in the cabin.
