One of the most spectacular cars in modern automotive design has been given a special edition of the Tricolore.
Only three copies will be made, and each one will cost prohibitive amounts of money.
Pagani is once again paying tribute to Italy’s Frecce Tricolori aerobatic division, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Horacio Pagani first did so in 2010, for the 50th anniversary of the ‘tricolore’, with the introduction of the Zonda Tricolore. Ten years later, the Huayra Tricolore will debut – just as unique, but even faster and more spectacular.
Each replica will differ in colour and detail from the Aermacchi MB-339A PAN – the jet aircraft used in the Tricolori formation. As in aviation, aerodynamics play a crucial role here. The Huayra has a new front bumper and redesigned air intakes on the sides of the body.
Between the driver and passenger heads, there’s room for an extra element that supplies cold air to the two-stroke V12. The culmination of everything is the redesigned diffuser and wing, reminiscent of the aircraft’s rudders.
The aviation references don’t end there. We can also find them in the cockpit, where there is an additional indicator in the middle of the cockpit, connected to a Pitot tube mounted at the front of the machine. It’s a solution to determine speed by measuring the difference between static and full pressure.
Of course, as befits a Tricolore, the Italian flag couldn’t help but be. Red, white and green run down the sides of the body from the height of the front pillar to the rear lights. These colours blend perfectly with the dark translucent navy blue that covers the carbon fibre bodywork.
